Irvington Alerts
From the Mayor’s Desk…May 9, 2025
In this letter I am providing you with an update on the Facilities Planning Committee, which has scheduled a public information session tomorrow, and highlighting the need for volunteers for important Village committees.
Facilities Planning Committee (“FPC”)
The FPC was created to help develop a long-term capital plan for Village facilities. The FPC’s efforts assist the Village Board to determine where to apply resources over many years to the construction of remodeled or new facilities for its departments. Any future facilities related expenses will be considered in the capital budget approved by the Village Board annually. The FPC, which began meeting in 2024, has prepared a description of its work that recommends a comprehensive capital improvement plan be developed and includes goals, scope, a review of past Village planning documents, public participation strategies and potential and existing building sites. Members of the FPC met with the Village Board, toured Village facilities and in conjunction with Village Board members met with capital planning consultants who advised nearby communities to expand our understanding of the process. More recently the FPC assisted the Village to prepare a request for proposal (“RFP”) to retain a capital planning consultant and helped answer questions from and conduct facilities tours for potential responders. Next the FPC will assist the Village Board as it considers responses to the RFP.
Tomorrow, Saturday, May 10 at 4 PM in the Village Hall Trustee Meeting Room the FPC will hold an information meeting to address the planning process to date and its future scope. I strongly encourage you to attend the meeting in person or by Zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84154939457 since the FPC’s work may have a significant impact on the Village.
Village Committee Membership Openings
The Village is fortunate to have many people who have generously given their time and expertise to committees that perform an essential Village function. Among them, Rick Rasulo has served as Village Trustee, Architectural Review Board Chair, Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee Chair, and in other roles for the Village over several decades. I want to thank Rick, who recently stepped down from his Village committee positions, for all he has done on behalf of Irvington.
For those of you who may be interested, Village committee members help advise our dedicated Village employees and expand the services the Village can provide to the community. Village committees focus on matters as varied as land use (planning, zoning, architectural review), facilities planning, recreation and parks, Irvington Woods, tree preservation, the theater, environmental issues, traffic and more. A list of committees and brief descriptions can be found at https://irvingtonny.gov/55/Volunteer-Boards-and-Committees
The Village is presently seeking members or alternates (who fill in when members cannot attend) for its Planning Board, Architectural Review Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee. Please notify Village Administrator Larry Schopfer (lschopfer@irvingtonny.gov) of your interest. Thank you.
Regards,
Jon Siegel, Mayor
