Carbondale Police Press Release -Reckless Discharge of a Firearm

CARBONDALE – On April 26, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 200 block of West College Street after a report of a shot fired. Officers arrived and learned from people at the scene that a male in a silver Dodge Journey fired a shot at them. Officers located the vehicle in the 700 block of West College Street and identified the suspect as Deiajion R. Nichols, age 18, of Carbondale. It was determined that this incident was a result of a personal dispute between Nichols and the individuals in the 200 block of West College Street. Officers arrested Nichols and charged him with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Assault, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Nichols was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing. No one was injured as a result of the incident.
