Carbondale Police Press Release - Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon

CARBONDALE – On April 15, 2025, at 1:57 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Department Officers found Milik J. Hughes, 29 years old of Carbondale, trespassing in a public park in the 1200 block of West Pleasant Hill Road. Hughes was arrested for Criminal Trespass to Real Property. During the arrest, officers found Hughes was in possession of a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number and cannabis in violation of Possession Adult Use of Cannabis Act. Officers charged Hughes with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Defacing Identification Markings on a Firearm in addition to the cannabis charges.  Hughes was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail, pending a detention hearing.
