Carbondale Police Press Release - Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon

CARBONDALE – On April 7, 2025, at 6:55 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 400 block of East Ashley Street and met with an individual who reported being threatened by a group of males with firearms. Officers saw one of the suspects, Kashaad D. Johnson, 18 years old of Carbondale, displaying a firearm while arguing with a motorist driving through the area. Johnson fled from officers and he was captured after a short foot pursuit. Officers recovered the firearm he possessed. During the investigation, witnesses directed officers to a residence where Johnson and the other unidentified suspects entered. Officers did not locate the other suspects inside the residence, however they did recover a large amount of firearm ammunition. Officers arrested Johnson for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Firearms and Firearms Ammunition, and Resisting a Peace Officer. Johnson was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail while awaiting a detention hearing.
