The City of Carbondale is excited to share that FlixBus has launched a new express route connecting Carbondale, IL to St. Louis, Nashville, and Atlanta! This strategic route to connect the Midwest and the South begins Thursday, March 13, 2025.  

“The new St. Louis to Atlanta express route marks an important expansion in our network, helping connect key cities across the Midwest and South – and more directly connecting some of our most popular stops in the country,” said Karina Frayter, head of communications at Flix North America. “With growing demand for intercity bus travel, this express route along three of our most popular stops will make reliable, affordable intercity transportation even more accessible.”

Strengthening our connections to major cities like St. Louis, Nashville, and Atlanta will benefit our community and local economy, making Carbondale an even more accessible destination."

WHAT: FlixBus, North America’s fastest-growing intercity bus service, announced today that it is launching a new express route connecting Carbondale, Illinois to St. Louis, Nashville, and Atlanta, a route strategically designed to bridge the gap between the Midwest and the South. Tickets are available at flixbus.com or via the FlixBus mobile app. 

WHEN: Service begins Wednesday, March 13. 

STOPS INCLUDE:  

• Southern Illinois Multimodal Station, 401 S. Illinois Ave., Carbondale, IL 62901 

• St. Louis Greyhound Bus Station, 430 S. 15th St. Louis, MO 63103 

• Nashville Greyhound Bus Station, 709 Rep John Lewis Way South, Nashville, TN 37203 

• Atlanta Greyhound Bus Station, 232 Forsyth St., Atlanta, GA 30303 

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  

• This route is strategically designed to bridge the gap between the Midwest and the South, offering a faster alternative for travelers heading to three of Flix’s highest-demand cities. 

• Operated in partnership with St. Louis-based Vandalia Bus Lines, Line 2521 will offer 6-7 schedules each week. 

• This route announcement comes as Flix North America, parent company of both FlixBus and Greyhound, recently reported a 7.5% year-over-year increase in ridership over the peak winter holiday season, reinforcing a broader shift in how people are traveling. 

• Additionally, a new DePaul University Chaddick Institute report projects bus ridership in the U.S. will grow by 4% in 2025, outpacing forecasts for airline and car travel.
