Carbondale Police Press Release - Armed Robbery

CARBONDALE – On January 25, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 400 block of South Graham Street for a report of a shot fired. While investigating the incident, officers learned a juvenile male had arrived at the Police Department to report that he had just been robbed. The victim reported an acquaintances displayed a firearm and demanded property from the victim in the 400 block of South Graham Street. As the victim fled in a vehicle, the suspect fired a shot. The victim left the area with two other acquaintances and stopped in the 300 block of East College Street where another of the victim’s acquaintances displayed a firearm and demanded property. The suspects ran from the area after taking his property. The victim then drove to the Police Department to report the incident.
The parents of two of the suspects cooperated and brought juvenile suspects to the Police Department. Officers arrested a 15-year-old juvenile from Carbondale and the 16-year-old from Carterville for Armed Robbery, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. After consulting with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office the two juveniles were incarcerated in a Juvenile Detention Center while awaiting a court appearance. One other juvenile is being sought for questioning at this time.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the identities of the juvenile suspects are not being released.
