Carbondale Police Press Release - Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Parole Violation Warrant Arrest

CARBONDALE – On January 15, 2025, at 12:35 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Department police officers conducted an investigation in reference to a recent armed robbery in the 2300 block of South Illinois Avenue. During the investigation, officers made contact with Elijah Holmes, age 19 of East St. Louis, IL. Holmes initially provided officers with false information about his true identity. Officers properly identified Holmes and he was found to have an Illinois Department of Corrections Parole Violation Warrant. Officers arrested Holmes for the warrant. Subsequent to his arrest, officers recovered two firearms and ammunition. One of the firearms had previously been reported stolen. Holmes was charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon- Possession of Firearm Ammunition and Obstructing Justice for knowingly providing a false name to officers. Holmes was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. Anyone with information about this incident or the Armed Robbery is encouraged to contact the Police Department at the numbers listed below.
