Carbondale Police Press Release - Traffic Crash

CARBONDALE – On November 26, 2024, at 5:15 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers and firefighters responded to the 500 block of South Forest Street regarding a vehicle that crashed into a house. The crash caused a fire to start in the house. Carbondale firefighters extinguished the fire and the home sustained significant damage. The residents were home at the time of the crash and all escaped the residence without injury.

It was learned from witnesses, that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot after the crash. The suspect is described as a white male wearing a white tee shirt. He was last seen running west on West Cherry Street. It was then reported to officers, that the vehicle had been stolen from a parking lot in the 900 block of West Main Street minutes before it crashed into the residence on South Forest. As of this release, the identity of the driver of the vehicle has not been determined. The case remains active and ongoing.
