Carbondale Police Press Release: Homicide Investigation Update

CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale Police Department continues to investigate the death of an individual after a disturbance in the 500 block of East Sycamore on July 20, 2024. The individual who died as a result of being stabbed was Traeshonne D. Blythe, age 31 of Carbondale. The investigation revealed that no one was a victim of a gunshot wound as was initially reported. The names of other individuals involved in this incident are not being released at this time as they have not been charged with any offenses and the investigation remains active and ongoing. The Carbondale Police Department extends condolences to the family and loved ones of Traeshonne Blythe.
***Previous Release*** On July 20, 2024, at 2:49 a.m., the City of Carbondale Police Department received a report of a stabbing and a vehicle theft from the 500 block of E. Sycamore Street. Officers learned the stabbing victim was already taken to the emergency room in a personal vehicle. The victim of the stabbing ultimately died as a result of the stab wound. The original reporting party reported to officers they received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during the same altercation in which the stabbing and vehicle theft occurred. The involved parties are all known acquaintances to each other. The names of the involved parties are not being released at this time. This is an active and on-going investigation. The Carbondale Police are being assisted in this investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, and the Jackson County States Attorney’s Office. All of the involved parties are identified and there are no known ongoing threats to the public.
