Malden Snow Update

After much discussion and consideration between our public safety officials, Public Works (DPW), Parking Department and Malden Public Schools we have decided to CONTINUE WITHOUT ENACTING WINTER PARKING RESTRICTIONS for the storm arriving Saturday night into Sunday, January 6th to 7th.

We arrived at this decision only after carefully considering the totality of the circumstances, which for this storm include:

  • A forecast from our weather service predicting only 5 inches of snow.
  • An extended storm duration of almost 18 hours.
  • Existing warm road temperatures which reduces accumulation.
  • Extended weather forecast predicting higher temperatures next week.

As a reminder, when we enact winter parking restrictions citywide, it remains in place for the entire winter season which can cause difficulty for our residents.  We strive for balance between convenience for our residents and giving our DPW the needed space to clear our roads.   We ask for your cooperation and patience as our DPW will be hard at work throughout the storm by pretreating the roads and following up to make sure that they remain safe for travel.

With that said, we are asking residents to help us by doing the following:

  1. Park as close to the curb as possible and leave at least 20 feet to intersections and 5 feet to neighboring driveways.
  2. If you have access to a driveway, please park there for the duration of the storm.
  3. Refrain from using school parking lots.
  4. Do not park in a way that blocks a plow or sander from getting down the street.
  5. Leave plenty of extra time in your commute or travels.
  6. Please clear sidewalks according to city ordinances.

Thank you and stay safe.  For more information on winter weather in Malden, visit cityofmalden.org/snow.
