Mayor Mantello to Proclaim March as Disabilities Awareness Month
Mayor Carmella R. Mantello is sponsoring a resolution designating March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.... The resolution is set to be passed at this evening’s Regular Council Meeting.
Among her efforts, Mantello worked with the Epilepsy Foundation to install the first handicapped-accessible swing in Troy’s parks. She continues to collaborate with neighborhood organizations and city officials to ensure a more inclusive and accessible community for all.
"The most effective way to increase awareness is through active participation, education, and recognizing the valuable contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities," said Mayor Mantello.
She further emphasized, “Troy is a city that believes in inclusion, accessibility, and opportunity for all. From working with the Epilepsy Foundation to install the first handicapped-accessible swing in our parks to advocating for greater accessibility in our neighborhoods, I remain committed to ensuring that everyone—regardless of ability—feels seen, valued, and empowered. Let’s all take a moment this month to learn, listen, and support those with disabilities. A small act of kindness, an open heart, and a commitment to inclusivity can make all the difference.”
