Mayor Mantello Announces New Vision for City Hall
The City of Troy is officially requesting proposals for a new site for City Hall. Responses are due June 28, 2024, by 11:00 a.m.

Troy, NY (April 22) – The City of Troy is seeking proposals for a permanent home for City Hall. From her days as council president to her current tenure as mayor, Mayor Carmella Mantello has vowed to provide the residents of Troy with a City Hall they can be proud of.

“Today marks a new beginning for the City of Troy,” stated Mayor Mantello. “We have been working hard to create a safer, cleaner Troy with the goal of reinstating pride in our community- that starts with an upstanding City Hall.”

The City of Troy's decision to establish a permanent, owned location for City Hall is driven by the desire for a centralized hub to better deliver local government services. Additionally, owning a City Hall provides a stable and prominent civic landmark, enhancing community pride. This move represents a financially prudent choice, offering long-term cost savings compared to leasing office spaces. It ensures the streamlined delivery of municipal services and strengthens the sense of identity among our residents.

“We want City Hall to be a place our residents are proud of,” said Mayor Mantello. “A lot of people don’t know where City Hall is or get confused when entering the Hedley Building; there are no indications of a ‘City Hall’, and there are no monuments to acknowledge the hardworking individuals in our community. The people of Troy deserve more than that.”

After the 2011 demolition of 1 Monument Square, the City of Troy has operated from leased space. While the current city hall is housed at 433 River Street, this location was selected nearly twelve years ago as a temporary solution. City Hall and the City of Troy will still be around 100 years from now and beyond, so a permanent solution is key for the new site.

Over the years, there have been numerous suggestions from residents and officials as to where City Hall should be located. The Italian Community Center, Johnstone Supply, the Hedley Building, the Frear/Atrium Building and the Old Lansingburgh Price Chopper are all being explored as possible options. However, the city seeks any and all viable location proposals.

The criteria are straightforward: the city seeks locations offering approximately 30,000-45,000 square feet of space, necessary public access, ADA compliance or the potential for such compliance, and approximately 80-100 parking spaces near public transportation.

Real estate developers, commercial property owners, and commercial real estate professionals with suitable properties are encouraged to submit their proposals by 11:00 a.m. on June 28, 2024.
