Mayor Mantello Announces Troy Operation Refresh

Operation Refresh spring cleaning includes three free bulk drop-off days, street AND alleyway sweeping, park rejuvenation, and more

Troy, NY (April 12) – Mayor Carmella Mantello is excited to announce Troy Operation Refresh, the spring-cleaning plan for 2024.
Just in time for warmer weather, City of Troy Quality of Life Action crews will begin their spring-cleaning on Monday, April 15. The city’s Operation Refresh will be much different this year, such as adding multiple dates for FREE bulk-trash drop off, deep cleaning alleyways and streets, and rejuvenating city parks.

Mayor Mantello stated, “We are pressing a refresh button with intense street and alleyway cleaning, curb to curb. We are going street by street, alleyway by alleyway to create a cleaner, greener Troy, and building pride in our city. That starts with being clean.”
Starting next week, the City of Troy will be offering three Saturdays throughout the six-week cleaning schedule for residents to drop off bulk items free of charge. From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Alamo will be open for bulk item disposal on April 20, May 4, and May 11.

NOTE: The City of Troy will NOT be accepting drop offs by U-Haul or similar vehicles, industrial waste, medical waste, sludge, household hazardous waste, batteries, used oil/filters, gas, kerosene, or fuel oil ashes.

In addition to bulk drop off, street sweeping will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Each street and alleyway have been assigned a specific day during the six-week Operation Refresh spring-cleaning. Crews will come through neighborhoods both on foot and in their vehicles to thoroughly clean each street and alleyway. ‘No parking’ signs will be posted the day before and will be removed as they finish each street. Residents are encouraged to put leaves and debris in a pile on the curb the night before their designated cleaning day.

Mayor Mantello continued, “Our city park rejuvenation initiatives include major beautification enhancements such as painting, checking city flags, and replacing all basketball nets.”

Some other parks enhancements will include:
  • Clean and paint the fountain at the Knick
  • Clean and paint the fountain at Frear Park circle
  • Repair fence at Poestenkill Gorge
  • Scrape and paint tennis practice walls
  • Paint trash receptacles
