Want to Serve? City of New Bern Searching for New Ward 6 Alderman
Interested candidates encouraged to submit resumés to blancob@newbernnc.gov
The New Bern Board of Aldermen is working to fill a vacant seat for ward 6 after the resignation of former alderman Robert Brinson. During a special called meeting on Friday, August 2, the Board discussed the vacancy and options for moving forward. During the live meeting, the Board of Aldermen encouraged interested candidates to step forward if they wish to serve. The current term for ward 6 lasts through December 2025. Ward 6 encompasses a large area west of Highway 17/70 and encompasses several neighborhoods including Belle Oaks, Craeberne Forest, Cypress Shores, Greenbrier, Haywood Farms, Kings Row and others. An interactive map of all city wards can be found by clicking here. The alderman must reside within the ward they represent.
Alderman Bob Brinson resigned his ward 6 seat late last month. He was nominated to fill the unexpired term of NC Senator Jim Perry of District 2 serving Craven, Beaufort and Lenoir counties. By statute, Mr. Brinson cannot serve in two elected offices simultaneously.
