SRPD is conducting a homicide investigation following a shooting on Atlanta Court
On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at approximately 2:40 pm, the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) Communications Center received a call about a possible domestic violence incident in an apartment located in the 1500 block of Atlanta Court. The caller was not at the residence but had received information about the incident via telephone. Officers immediately responded to the apartment but were unable to make contact with any occupants of the residence. The officers continued to investigate the situation and learned area residents heard what they believed to be several gunshots approximately 20 minutes before police arrived on the scene.Due to reports of gunshots and the probability of an armed person within the apartment, residents of the additional three apartments in the 4-plex apartment were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. Numerous attempts to contact the residents of the apartment were made by members of the SRPD Hostage Negotiations Team, but all were unsuccessful. Members of the SRPD Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT), including a Santa Rosa Fire Department (SRFD) SWAT Medic, quickly responded to the scene. Additional attempts to communicate with the occupants of the apartment continued to be unsuccessful.
At approximately 4:30 pm, members of the SWAT team entered the apartment and shortly thereafter, they located two deceased people inside a back bedroom, both of whom appeared to have gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced deceased by the SRFD SWAT Medic at the scene.
Detectives with the SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations Team (VCI) and SRPD Field Evidence Technicians responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Detectives have preliminarily identified the decedents as a 24-year-old female and a 24-year-old male, both residents of the apartment who had recently moved to Santa Rosa from Southern California. Their names or other identifying details will not be released until official identification has been made by the Coroner and next of kin notifications have been made.
VCI detectives served a search warrant at the apartment following the discovery of the bodies and recovered a total of four firearms. The two pistols, one assault rifle, and one shotgun recovered were determined to be owned by the male decedent. It is believed the female suffered multiple gunshot wounds from an assault rifle, and the male suffered at least one gunshot wound from the same firearm. Autopsies for both decedents are expected to be completed today, June 12, 2025.
The nature of the relationship between the decedents is currently being investigated, as is the sequence of events leading to their deaths. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe this incident was isolated to the apartment and the decedents, and do not believe there is a continued risk to public safety. More information may be released as it becomes available.
Previous to this incident, there have been 7 homicides in the City of Santa Rosa since January 2025.
Santa Rosa Police Department case number 25-6740.
