SRPD News Release: DUI Suspect arrested after short pursuit through Santa Rosa neighborhood.

DUI Suspect arrested after short pursuit through Santa Rosa neighborhood.

On Thursday, February 6th at approximately 9:10pm, Santa Rosa Police Officers were dispatched to a reported collision in the area of Hahman Drive and Magowan Drive in east Santa Rosa. It was reported that a blue Saturn had collided with a white panel van.

As SRPD officers were responding to the scene, SRPD dispatch was being updated by witnesses who stated the blue Saturn was leaving the scene.

An SRPD Accident Investigator was responding to the collision and located the blue Saturn driving away. The Accident Investigator attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the blue Saturn, but the driver failed to yield, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was brief due to the major damage sustained to the Saturn during the original collision, rendering it mostly inoperable.

The driver of the Saturn surrendered as the pursuit terminated without further incident.

The driver of the Saturn was identified as John Patrick Thorpe, a 43-year-old resident of Santa Rosa.  Upon contact, it was obvious that Thorpe was displaying symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. A DUI investigation was initiated, and Thorpe was subsequently arrested for the following charges:

23152(a) VC – Driving under the influence of alcohol
2800.2 VC – Reckless Evading

Thorpe had minor injuries and thankfully no one else was injured. Thorpe was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
