Prohibited Person Arrested for Possession of Firearm Precursor Parts

During the third week in March 2024, the Santa Rosa Police Department Narcotics Team began an investigation into illegal firearms manufacturing and sales. The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Sebastopol resident, Daniel Saylor.

On 04/10/24, at approximately 1012 hours, detectives from the Narcotics and Property Crimes Teams, along with a patrol officer, detained Saylor at the Sonoma County courthouse pursuant to a search warrant.

Detectives then responded to the 4900 block of Hessel Rd, Sebastopol, and executed the service of a search warrant at that location. Detectives located three 3D printers and numerous Glock-style handgun frames. It was determined Saylor was using the 3D printers to manufacture the handgun frames. The handgun frames did not have the required valid state or federal serial numbers or marks of identification. These handgun frames are considered a “firearm precursor part” and are required to have serial numbers, which are obtained from the Department of Justice.

Saylor is prohibited from possessing firearms and/or “firearm precursor parts.” Saylor was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for the following violations:

  • 29800(a) PC – Prohibited person in Possession of a Firearm.
  • 23920(b) PC – Possession of a Firearm or “Firearm Precursor Part” without a valid serial number.
