Another Firearm Seized on Santa Rosa Streets!
On Monday, August 28, 2023, at approximately 2:45am, a Santa Rosa Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a Silver Ford Explorer at 440 Hearn Avenue for a minor traffic violation. During the stop, the officer saw narcotic paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Based on the observation of the paraphernalia, the driver was detained for further investigation.The officer conducted a search of the vehicle and located a loaded .22 caliber Taurus handgun with a threaded barrel and attached compensator. The driver, Jesus Corrales-Avilez, was a self-admitted narcotic addict which prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
Corrales-Avilez was arrested for multiple charges and booked into the Sonoma County Jail

25400(a)(1) PC – Carry a concealed weapon in a vehicle.

30605 (A) PC – Possession of an assault weapon
The officer who conducted the traffic stop and the back-up officer who arrived to assist have seized a total of 15 firearms from various investigations since January. Both officers work the weekend graveyard shift and are working hard to keep our streets safe for the community.
