SRPD News Release: Santa Rosa Police Department Investigating Stabbing on the Joe Rodota Trail

Santa Rosa Police Department Investigating Stabbing on the Joe Rodota Trail

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 2:12 am, Santa Rosa Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Sebastopol Rd and Dutton Av regarding an adult male that had been stabbed. When officers arrived on the scene, they located an adult male in his 30s, bleeding from his abdomen. The victim was being treated by EMS and was later transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Through the investigation, officers learned that at approximately 8:00 pm on 6/5/2023, the victim was walking on the Joe Rodota Trail (JRT) when he was approached by two adult males. One of the adult males was riding a bicycle. A short interaction occurred before one of the suspects (who was wearing a mask) pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim two times in the abdomen.

The suspects then fled eastbound on the JRT. The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening. The only suspect information available, currently, is two adult males. Anyone who witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the Santa Rosa Police Department and provide a statement. If you live in the area of this incident, please check any personal surveillance cameras to see if you captured the stabbing or the suspects fleeing.

The Joe Rodota Trail is a highly traveled trail for walkers, bicyclists, and runners. The Sonoma County Parks Department is responsible for enforcement and security on the JRT but based on the circumstances and the immediate need for police assistance, the Santa Rosa Police Department took the lead on this investigation.
