Hello Sandy Business Leader,
2025 is the start of an economic renaissance in Sandy City with a banner year ahead for economic development. A bold plan, put in place three years ago, assures that each day we will protect, connect, and create opportunity for those who live and work in our city.
In 2025, we’ll see the outcome of planning, collaboration, and dedication with the opening of our new Sandy City Fire Department Headquarters, Fire Station 31. We’re also anticipating transformative growth around The Shops at South Town spurred by Smith Entertainment Group’s addition of the new hockey practice facility and Utah Hockey Club headquarters. They are working in record time to finish the new ice sheets by fall of this year. The work in our city center brings positive attention from around the state as families and sports fans anticipate a vibrant center. Soon they’ll be enjoying professional hockey and soccer, shopping, dining, world-class entertainment, and ice skating!
Investments in public safety are helping reduce crime rates and bringing new technologies to keep our streets safe. While the number of calls for medical help increases with a thriving city, our Sandy City Fire Department, which had a staff of 86 four years ago, is now fully staffed at 101 firefighters and EMTs. Our community is investing in public safety, which is our city’s highest priority. Our police and fire departments are swift, well-trained, and equipped with the resources they need.
The connections we’re making in our community are enhancing civic involvement. As we share information about the issues and events in our city, we’ve seen attendance at our festivals skyrocket and we always have great support from our local businesses – from our citywide Trunk or Treat, to the Light up the Cairns holiday event, to our city Shop & Strolls. Check out this video of the highlights of 2024. We’ve also created a new master plan for our city that comes as the result of more than 120 public meetings and extensive input from residents and business leaders.
We are creating new opportunities for everyone, whether in housing, retail, entertainment, or recreation. We are seeing the results of careful planning come to fruition as we plant the seeds for the coming generations.
I look forward to working with you in 2025 year and appreciate the feedback you offer about Sandy City. I value the investment you are making in this great community.
Yours in Service,

MONICA M. ZOLTANSKI
Mayor

Mayor's Economic Advisory Panel Recap
Business and community leaders convened for the Mayor’s Economic Advisory Panel, originally formed over three years ago to provide feedback and facilitate communication that fosters opportunities in local business, housing, transportation, and community culture. In light of historic investments from leaders in Utah’s professional sports industry, Sandy City is advancing public infrastructure and achieving key planning objectives designed to attract private investment. With professional hockey and both men’s and women’s professional soccer at its core, the city is well-positioned to launch a dynamic new chapter for its local economy.
A forum discussion was held featuring Amanda Covington of the Larry H. Miller Company and Jim Olson, President of the Utah Jazz and SEG Executive, moderated by South Valley Chamber CEO Jay Francis. The panel focused on the powerful synergy within the professional sports sector and its role in ushering in a new era of economic growth in Sandy City.
Sandy’s recently adopted General Plan update—shaped by resident and business input and approved by the City Council in January—now provides a cohesive, strategic vision for future development. This includes plans for new housing, hotels, corporate headquarters, retail, trails, and transportation infrastructure in the city center, particularly around the mall and soccer stadium. The city is committed to implementing this deliberate and community-driven roadmap for growth, which aligns closely with the values of the residents.
The enthusiastic response from local businesses, developers, and other economic development stakeholders at the event confirmed strong support for this vision and a shared commitment to realizing the full potential of the Cairns District. The future of Sandy is filled with promise, and the city is proud to collaborate with leaders who not only bring experience and execution but also a deep dedication to community. Gratitude is extended to all those contributing to quality, planned growth in Sandy City.
