Public Alerts within Sedgwick County, KS
Updated weather briefing details
2/16/2022 - 3:47 PM
EOC Partners,
The NWS pushed out their afternoon update a little early, but I’m afraid that’s where the good news ends. They have upped the snowfall forecast for Wichita and Sedgwick County to 6-8”, and they expect some areas here will see even more. We are under a winter storm warning from midnight tonight through 6PM Thursday.
Details are in the attached slides, but they expect the mixed wintry precipitation to start by 2AM, giving us anywhere from .01 to .1” inches of ice accumulation before it switches over too all snow by 5AM. It is expected to be a wet snow, falling at a rate of an inch per hour, or more, through noon, before finally ending.
Winds will still be strong and gusting to near 40, making for dangerous wind chills and dangerous driving conditions. The wind chill values will remain below zero Friday morning.
Confidence in their forecast is increasing, so it looks like tomorrow will be a day when travel will be discouraged. If you must be on the roads, make sure you have an emergency winter kit in your vehicle.
Thank you,
Cody Charvat
