UPDATE: Traffic Crash Involving Motorcycle and Minivan Results in Fatality; Roads Reopened

UPDATE: Butterfield Road and the intersection of Herrick Road and Butterfield Road have been reopened following a traffic crash that resulted in a fatality.
At approximately 10:05 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, the Wheaton Police Department, along with the Wheaton Fire Department and Warrenville Fire Protection District, responded to a serious traffic crash involving a minivan and a motorcycle at the intersection of Butterfield Road and Herrick Road.
Upon arrival, first responders located a 22-year-old male motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries. He was transported by Warrenville Paramedics to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the minivan, an 84-year-old female and sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Central DuPage Hospital by Wheaton Paramedics as a precaution.
A portion of Butterfield Road was closed for approximately 4 and a half hours to allow the Wheaton Police Department and the MERIT Major Crash Reconstruction Team to conduct an investigation.
Because this crash is still under investigation, no other information will be released at this time.

The Wheaton Police Department is responding to a traffic crash in the area of Butterfield Road and Herrick Road, and there is currently a large police presence in the area. The intersection of Butterfield and Herrick Road is closed, in addition to eastbound Butterfield between Winfield and Herrick. Westbound Butterfield Road in this area is reduced to one lane. Wheaton Police are asking drivers to find an alternate route, as this area will continue to be closed while the crash is investigated. We will post an update once the road has reopened.
