UPDATE: Woodlawn Street Reopened, Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire

Woodlawn Street has been reopened between Lakeside Drive and Roosevelt Road following a structure fire involving a single-family home.
At approximately 11:27 a.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 600 block of Woodlawn Street. Upon arrival, crews identified a single-family home on fire.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within 15 minutes. There were no injuries to the home’s residents or to firefighters. The fire caused heavy damage to the home's interior and exterior and also extended to two vehicles in the driveway and the residence to the north.
The 600 block of South Woodlawn Street was temporarily shut down while crews responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. A cause and origin investigation was completed and it was determined that the fire began on an exterior porch. The exact cause is still undetermined at this time. Damage estimates are estimated in excess of $300,000. The building was deemed uninhabitable due to the extensive fire and smoke damage. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from the West Suburban Fire Rescue Alliance communities.
