Winter Weather Updates

Winter Weather Reminders:

With the anticipated winter weather and dangerously low temperatures, make sure you are prepared!  Jenks Public Works and Jenks Police will be out monitoring roads this morning as the weather moves in. ❗️Please sign up for city alerts to receive emergency weather related information, city service information, and other relevant information: https://www.jenks.com/374/Notify-Me and follow Jenks Police Department Facebook page for additional road updates.

Here are a few tips and reminders for the freezing temps moving in:

πŸ‘₯ People: Check in on your elderly neighbors, family, and anyone you know that may be vulnerable in winter conditions. If you fear for the safety of a loved one or neighbor during these extreme temperatures, please call the Jenks Police Department at 918-299-6311 and request a welfare check. Welfare check eligibility will be explained over the phone by dispatch or a Jenks Police Officer.

🐢 Pets: Bring your furry friends inside! If it’s too cold outside for you, it is for them too. If not able to bring pets Inside, please set them up In the garage with blankets and straw. The anticipated temperatures this week will be so cold that most pets will not survive If left outside. 

πŸͺ΄ Plants: Bring plants inside or use a sheet/blanket to cover plants that must remain outside. 

πŸ’§ Pipes: Cover outdoor pipes and spigots to prevent freezing and breaks. Also, don’t forget to turn off your sprinkler systems.
Minimize Frozen Pipe Risk: Leave faucets running at a trickle (more than a drip), leave cabinet doors open, and close all doors and windows to keep heat inside. 

If you need assistance with turning off your water in an emergency, please contact Public Works at 918-299-9511 during normal business hours. For after-hour emergencies, call the Police Dispatch non-emergency line at 918-299-6311.

πŸ‘‰In the event of any inclement weather this season, updates to City services (City facility closings, trash and recycling delays, etc.) will be released on the City's website (Jenks.com) and social media channels, when available.

β–ͺ️ Protect Natural Gas Meters: Remove snow and ice from natural gas meters with a broom or brush. Never kick or chip snow and ice away with a hard object.
β–ͺ️ Unblock Vents: Make sure external vents for dryers and other natural gas appliances are clear.
β–ͺ️ Heat Source Alert: Never use an oven or a gas stovetop to heat your home.

β–ͺ️ Give heaters space.
β–ͺ️ Plug all heating appliances directly into wall outlets, not power strips or extension cords.
β–ͺ️ Place heaters on a hard and level surface. 
β–ͺ️ Turn them off when you leave the room or are sleeping.
β–ͺ️ Never leave a fire in the fireplace unattended.
β–ͺ️ Do not use stoves or ovens to heat homes.
