Assumption Parish Alerts
Update from the NWS concerning the severe weather and heavy rainfall threat for Today into tonight.
- The Storm Warning was extended north to the coast of SE LA and coastal MS including the sounds.
- Severe Weather: Threats include damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes (some strong) and large hail. Multiple rounds of severe weather will be possible beginning later this afternoon, lasting through before daybreak Tuesday (see briefing for more details)
- Flash Flooding: Will be a significant concern with this system, with 2 to 5 inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts expected. Street flooding in areas will be likely, especially vulnerable and urban locations, and there will be an increased concern during peak commuter times as well as at nighttime.
- Strong Wind Gusts: 20 to 35 mph winds with gusts up to 45 mph will be expected outside of any thunderstorm activity. Wind gusts upwards of 55 mph possible near coastal areas. Winds gusts will be dangerous for high-profile vehicles and school buses, especially on elevated roadways,
- Significant Coastal Flooding: Due to strong southeasterly winds is expected primarily during high tide cycle later this afternoon thru early Tuesday. Inundation of 1 to 3 feet in the advisory area to 2 to 4 feet for coastal Hancock County.
- Dangerous Marine Conditions: Enhanced waves/swells and gale to storm force winds expected.
