City Announces Cooling Center Locations During High Temperatures this Week

6/18/2024 - 10:43 AM
The City of Portland is alerting residents that two cooling centers will be available to the public this week. Portland is not under any official heat advisories from the National Weather Service, but temperatures are expected to be in the high 80s and low 90s.

The Troubh Ice Arena at 225 Park Avenue will be open on Wednesday, June 19 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and on Thursday, June 20 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The public can also cool off at the downtown Portland Public Library at 5 Monument Square on Thursday, June 20 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (please note the Library is closed on Wednesday, June 19 in honor of the Juneteenth Holiday).

Additionally, the City urges people to take advantage of the Deering Oaks Ravine, the Kiwanis Pool, and the several splash pads around the city.

People are urged to limit outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, and wear light colored clothing. We ask that you check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are okay, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
