AlertAnnapolis: City Offices to Close at 1 p.m. Today Due to Winter Weather; Delayed Opening on Wednesday & Other Important Reminders
- PLOW OPERATIONS: The Annapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) began preparations on Tuesday morning, pretreating roadways with deicing agents. Beginning at noon on Tuesday, crews will work in 12-hour shifts to plow and treat. If possible, consider avoiding travel Tuesday evening/night to allow crews time and space to treat Snow Emergency and connector roads. If you must travel, please slow down and exercise caution.

- SNOWPATHS: The City of Annapolis invites residents to follow plow and treat operations by using SnowPaths, an initiative to provide residents, business owners, and visitors with GPS tracking of winter road maintenance during snow and ice events. SnowPaths features an interactive map that displays real-time information on when roads were last serviced. Users can also view priority levels for roads throughout the city. Priority roads include emergency and connector routes that are serviced more frequently to allow for essential travel and safer access to critical services. Snowpaths is maintained by the Department of Public Works (DPW) and is accessible online at www.annapolis.gov/snowpaths.
This is an important message from the City of Annapolis Office of Emergency Management (OEM):
FORECAST UPDATE: As of this morning, the National Weather Service predicts snow and sleet will arrive in the Annapolis area around 1 p.m. this afternoon. The snow is expected to be a heavy, wet snow with total accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Temperatures will stay above freezing during daylight hours today, but will dip below freezing overnight. Please use caution when venturing out Wednesday morning when sidewalks and driveways may be icy.
CITY OPERATING STATUS & EMPLOYEE LEAVE POLICY: City offices will close at 1 p.m. today (Tuesday, February 11, 2025). Essential employees should report for duty on normal hours unless otherwise indicated by their supervisor. For Wednesday, February 12, the Annapolis City Manager currently expects to open on a two-hour delay. The City Manager may reassess the weather’s impact on City openings early Wednesday.
CITY EVENT CANCELLATIONS: The Historic Preservation Commission meeting originally scheduled for tonight has been canceled and will be rescheduled at a future date to be determined. The State of Black Annapolis event at the Michael E. Busch Public Library, scheduled for Tuesday, has also been canceled. At this time, there is no change to City meetings scheduled for Wednesday (Transportation Committee at 4 p.m. has moved to virtual; Housing and Human Welfare Committee at 7 p.m. will take place in City Council Chambers; Recreation Advisory Board will be virtual at 7 p.m.).
EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER (EOC) and ANNAPOLIS CALL CENTER: The Annapolis EOC is currently activated to an Enhanced level. The EOC will increase to Partial activation tomorrow morning to coordinate the City’s preparedness activities and support any response and recovery efforts for this weather event. The Annapolis Call Center will be operational on Tuesday and Wednesday for non-emergency questions related to the winter storm and City Services. Annapolis residents can call 410-260-2211. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
WARMING CENTER: The Stanton Center, at 92 West Washington Street in Annapolis, will activate as a temporary emergency warming center Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. Please note all referrals must check-in to the Stanton Center nightly by 9 p.m. Questions on the warming center can be directed to the Annapolis Call Center at 410-260-2211. If there is a need for general or long-term sheltering assistance, please contact the Crisis Response System Warmline at 410-768-5522.
PUBLIC WORKS UPDATES
ANNAPOLIS TRANSIT: At this time, transit routes are expected to operate on a regular schedule. The State Shuttle that services the Maryland General Assembly will run until 8 p.m. The downtown Magenta Shuttle will run until 11 p.m. Updates to the schedule will be posted on the City of Annapolis website: www.Annapolis.gov.
REMOVE VEHICLES FROM SNOW EMERGENCY ROUTES: In order to facilitate the work of plow crews, the City will open parking garages in downtown from 12 p.m. on Tuesday to 12 p.m. on Thursday so that residents can move their cars off of Snow Emergency Routes. Vehicles that remain on Snow Emergency Routes after 3 p.m. on Tuesday MAY be subject to towing if plows are unable to navigate around the parked vehicle. Annapolis Police will make every effort to contact vehicle owners to move vehicles in order to avoid towing. Residents also have the option of parking in their own driveways or moving vehicles to driveways or side streets.
RECREATION AND PARKS: The Roger “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center will close at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and reopen at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The Stanton Center will close at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, except as a warming center. For further updates, please check the Recreation and Parks Facebook page.
BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR: Check in on elderly and vulnerable neighbors; shovel your sidewalk; and clear snow away from fire hydrants, including a path from the hydrant to the street so that firefighters can easily access it if needed.
