Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Alerts
AlertAnnapolis - City Continues to Prepare for Snow on Sunday; Extreme Cold and Dangerous Windchills Monday through Thursday
This is an important message from the City of Annapolis Office of Emergency Management (OEM):
OEM is continuing to monitor the forecasted winter precipitation, single-digit temperatures, and negative windchill values that could impact Annapolis beginning as early as Saturday, January 18th, and continue through next week. Be prepared for moderate impacts, including slick road conditions, dangerously cold temperatures, and potential disruptions to critical infrastructure or facilities.
Winter Weather Precipitation
The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting winter precipitation on Saturday and Sunday. Models predict chances of rain and snow on Saturday and snow on Sunday into Sunday night. NWS is increasingly confident that snow will accumulate on Sunday, and the expected snow totals for Annapolis might range between 2 and 4 inches. Onset conditions of snowfall happening this weekend are anticipated to be heavy and wet.
Cold Weather
NWS is forecasting below-freezing temperatures and potentially extreme wind chills. This area has not seen temperatures this cold since at least December 2022. On Monday and Tuesday nights, the wind chill is expected to reach -5°F. Exposure to these kinds of dangerously low temperatures can cause frostbite or hypothermia! Temperatures are not forecasted to rise again until the second half of next week.
With the expected cold temperatures, there is a threat of water main breaks. If you see water flowing or bubbling out of the street, it could be a water main break. Report immediately to the 24-hour line, 410-224-2160 (the line for after-hours, weekends, and holidays).
