Lytle P.D. Officers managed 60 calls for service last week and conducted 63 traffic stops. Of those 63 stops, 36 resulted in citations and 27 were warnings.

Arrests: Officers made 7 arrests last week. #1 – A 44-year-old male was cited and released for Theft of Service. He was observed on 4/1 dumping trash in the dumpster at Primrose Funeral Home. #2 – A traffic stop resulted in a 25-year-old male being cited and released for possession of drug paraphernalia. #3 – An 83-year-old male was arrested for Terroristic Threats that occurred on Houston St. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #4 – A 31-year-old female was arrested for D.W.I. She was found in the roadway sleeping in her vehicle with no lights on. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #5 – A 47-year-old male was arrested for D.W.I. after he was found stopped in the middle of the road. He was also charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #6 – A traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a 60-year-old male for an active warrant out of Atascosa Co. for possession of a controlled substance. During his arrest, he was found to be in possession of additional narcotics and picked up an additional possession charge. #7 – A traffic stop for speeding resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old male for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
Fantastic job this week with three D.W.I. arrests; our officers are committed to keeping our streets safe.
Property/Other Crimes: Officers took reports of 3 property/other crimes. #1 – H.E.B. Plus reported a theft of three briskets that occurred on 3/15/2025. The suspects were arrested in San Antonio for a similar theft, and it was discovered that they hit our store too. H.E.B. is a great store. Like you and I, they visit them when traveling in other towns … crooks do the same. #2 – Officers took a report of two more forged checks cashed at El Bufalo Pawn. #3 – A complainant reported he was swindled out of $4,200 by a caller who said he could “lower his mortgage payment”.
Officers conducted one emergency mental health detention; a 51-year-old male was transported to the Camino Real Crisis Center (Lytle).
April 26-28 is a “Tax Free Holiday” for Emergency Preparation Supplies. Items like batteries, flashlights, and first aid kits are not subject to sales tax. Visit the Texas Comptroller’s page for full details.
On Saturday, the city held its 27th annual Easter Eggs-Travaganza at John Lott Park. We even had it during COVID, but it was a drive-thru event. Our City Secretary, Paola Rios, headed up the event and said attendees numbered around 300. She said they were just shy of 22,000 eggs “to be hunted”. That doesn’t even seem possible, I might request a recount. “Hats Off” to everyone who made this event such a success.
Last week, Sgt. David Lopez and I headed off to Galveston for the annual Texas Police Chiefs Conference. I missed it last year because I had a house full of sick kids, and it was nice to be able to make it this year. It was a record-setting event with over 800 attendees. When I started going, we sometimes had just 200-300 in attendance. Several of the sponsors hosted a free Neal McCoy concert on Monday night. Being a 90s’ country guy I was not disappointed. Neal put on a great show and really interacted with the crowd (there were only a couple hundred or so there). He said all his hits were from the “last century,” but that was fine by me.
We attended impressive breakout sessions and spent time with over 200 vendors. There were great speakers, a fellow named Rick Rigsby did a fantastic job. We also heard from Mike Singletary, the retired NFL Hall of Famer. Interestingly, McCoy, Rigsby, and Singletary are all 66 years old. They are doing something right; they were all moving around like young men. It was an exciting time networking, where we saw areas where we are doing things right and other areas where we can improve our service. That is what it is all about, not getting caught in our own little world where we think we have all the answers to all the questions.
