April 7, 2025
Good afternoon,
We have uploaded the weekly report to our website (www.lytletx.org/police). Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Current Weekly Report.” If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. You can reach me at our office (830-709-0277) or by email @ richard.priest@lytletx.org.

Last week, your Lytle P.D. Officers handled 64 calls for service and conducted 52 traffic stops, which resulted in 27 citations and 25 warnings. These are just basic numbers; there is no way to condense what these officers do into just a few numbers on paper or a paragraph or two in my written documents.
There were several arrests made last week, 5 to be exact. #1 – Ofc. L. Diaz conducted a traffic stop on McDonald St. for an expired registration. A 42-year-old female was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (Felony), and she was booked into the county jail in Jourdanton. #2 – Ofc. A. Lopez arrested a 46-year-old male at John Lott Park for Public Intoxication. He was also booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #3 – A traffic stop by Ofc. J. Cortez for failing to yield right-of-way on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 56-year-old female. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance (Felony) and failure to ID (Fugitive from Justice). She also had an active warrant for possession of a controlled substance (Felony). She kept up a good story about who she falsely claimed to be …  until a fingerprint check at the jail revealed the truth. #4 – Ofc. J. Cortez conducted a traffic stop on Railroad St. for disregarding a stop sign, resulting in the arrest of an 18-year-old male for unlawfully carrying a handgun. A 17-year-old passenger and a 16-year-old juvenile were both cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. The 18-year-old was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail on the weapons charge, and the other two received citations. #5 – Capt. M. Dear and Ofc. P. Tafolla responded to a domestic disturbance on S. Benton St. A 54-year-old female was arrested for assault causing bodily injury to a family member. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #6 – A complainant reported that a GPS “ping” showed that their stolen trailer was located at the H.E.B. Ofc. J. Cortez and Ofc. S. Mendez responded. The investigation led to a 25-year-old male being arrested for possession of the stolen trailer and possession of a controlled substance. The trailer and a power washer were recovered and reported stolen out of San Antonio. We later determined that the 2020 Ford F-250 attached to the trailer had been stolen from Kendall Co. Also seized was a 2012 Bobcat Skid Steer … I am sure it was stolen too; it will take a little while to figure it out.
Only one property crime was reported last week. On Thursday, April 3rd, a complainant reported that his black 2020 Ford F250 P/U was stolen from the H.E.B. parking lot. A handgun was also inside the vehicle. The theft occurred between 5:30 AM and 1:30 PM.
In other news, an excellent job by Ofc. R. Garcia. He caught a male illegally dumping into the dumpster at Primrose Funeral Home. This is a theft of service; those dumpsters aren’t cheap. Charges are pending against our suspect. I would also like to point out that we have some nice new sidewalks around the school area. We aren’t accustomed to many sidewalks, but please don’t park your vehicle on them or block them. They are for pedestrians, not parking. So please keep the sidewalks open for their intended use.
On to something fun … Join us on Saturday, April 19, for our annual Easter Eggs-Travaganza at John Lott Park. The event runs from 10 AM until Noon. The egg hunt starts at 11 AM. It is for kids ages 1 – 8 years old. The cost is $1 per child or one canned good. I can tell you that is a good deal, that has been the cost for at least 20 years! It appears the cost of plastic eggs has not risen like the cost of real eggs. The only other $1 option I can think of is in Brenham at the Bluebell Creamery, where you can still get a big scoop of ice cream for just a buck (including tax).  The downside is the 3-hour drive to get there.
