Last week at Lytle PD … Officers handled 38 calls for service and conducted 50 traffic stops. Of those 50 stops, we had a rare 50/50 split with 25 citations and 25 warnings.

Your officers made four arrests last week. We had a nice variety, drugs, guns, a domestic violence, and a warrant. #1 – Officers responded to a disturbance on Adams St. and a 34-year-old male was found to have an active parole violation warrant out of the Pardons and Paroles Board out of Austin. So, the brief explanation is that this fellow had been in prison, got released early on parole, and then did something that violated his parole. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. by Ofc. J. Cortez (assisted by Ofc. S. Mendez) resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old male. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance (Meth) and unlawfully carrying a weapon. #3 – Ofc. J. Cortez conducted a traffic stop on the IH-35 frontage road on a vehicle that disregarded a red light. The stop resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old female for DWI. #4 – Ofc. S. Mendez responded to a disturbance on Creek St. and her investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year-old male for Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member. All four arrestees were booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail in Jourdanton.
The only property crime we reported last week was a call for theft of service (dumping trash in a private dumpster). It occurred in the 19200 block of McDonald St. An unknown suspect overfilled a dumpster with about 6 bags of trash.
Officers conducted one mental health emergency detention; a male was transported from a business on Main St. to the Camino Real Crisis Center. Yes, our local center can now accept Emergency Mental Health Detentions by a Peace Officer. Our officers would typically have to transport to a facility in San Antonio. There will still be times that will necessitate a trip to San Antonio, but this helps a lot. It saves time, keeps the officers local, saves gas and “wear and tear” on the vehicles, etc. It also keeps us from being tempted to have the transporting officer stop by a drive-thru and pick up Chinese food on the way back.
Update on the pickup stolen on Feb. 24 from the Lytle Apartments: On Monday, March 10, our officers were informed that SAPD was chasing a stolen vehicle, and it was headed our way. Our officers made the location on CR 6848 (Twin Lakes). S.A.P.D. along with Medina Co. S.O. had two people in custody. A few hours later we learned the stolen vehicle they were chasing was our truck that had been stolen a couple of weeks before! Our stolen vehicle made its way home and was recovered.  It’s odd how that played out.
This weekend is the Lytle Music Festival. There will be live music at John Lott Park on both Friday and Saturday evenings with a car show on Saturday during the day. Check out the vendors and the food trucks too. Free admission and parking, no outside coolers will be allowed.
