Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - November 11, 2024
Monday, Nov. 11, 2024
I have uploaded the weekly report to our website. You can find it at www.lytletx.org/police. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Current Weekly Report.” If you have any questions, you can email me at richard.priest@lytletx.org The City offices are closed in observance of Veterans Day. While I never served in the military, my father, my father-in-law, my grandfathers, and all my great-uncles served. It is safe to say that we live in the greatest country on Earth, and our veterans played an enormous role. The regularly scheduled City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12 @ 6:30 PM – at our city hall, and was moved to Tuesday because of the City Holiday.
For the week ending Nov. 10, 2024, … Officers managed 53 calls for service and conducted 45 traffic stops. Of those 45 stops, 18 resulted in citations and 27 were warnings.
Only two property crimes were reported last week. #1 – A complainant reported that an empty tool bag was taken from inside their unlocked vehicle. What a great haul for a crook, an empty bag. That crook needs to go back to vehicle burglary school. #2 – Officers responded to a burglary on Iams Way (the new Rosewood Estates subdivision), a Whirlpool stove/range was stolen from a new home that was ready for sale. Unfortunately, those types of crimes come with all the new growth.
There were three arrests last week. #1 – Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle partially on the roadway (19100 Blk. of McDonald St.). The 1999 Ford F 250 was stolen out of San Antonio and the 50-year-old male driver was also found to have a bag of “meth”. The vehicle was recovered, and he was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old male for driving while his license was invalid (w/previous convictions). He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #3 – Officers contacted a 54-year-old male who had been operating a big black Hummer. It was reported that he struck a bollard at the H.E.B. C-Store gas station. After an initial investigation officers determined he was intoxicated, and a blood warrant was obtained. After a blood draw at the hospital in Jourdanton, he was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. Interestingly this occurred around 1:30 PM on Sunday, I was off-duty and headed north on Main St. when this fellow about hit me head-on (he was in my lane). Thankfully, he was taken off the road before somebody got hurt, and that somebody was almost me!
I don’t have any official comments on the Community Clean-Up held last Saturday, but my observations were that it was an enormous success. I took advantage of it, and both locations had a steady flow of people dropping off bulky items. This is a great program that benefits our garbage customers. If you don’t believe me, just call around and get prices on a roll-off dumpster.
As always, don’t hesitate to report suspicious activity. For incidents in the city, the dispatch number is 830-769-3434 Option #1. A friendly and well-trained member of the Atascosa Co. Communications Division will answer your call, and they have direct radio access to our officers in the field. If you don’t live in the city, make sure you have the right number for your law enforcement agency, and don’t hesitate to call. You are not “bothering” us, it is our job… we are public servants. Also, don’t feel like we have “more important things to do” … We have missed some valuable information because residents think that what they have to say isn’t important. Now that the election is over, we will even have more time since we won’t be getting 100 texts a day asking for money.
