Our “Week in Review” of Lytle P.D. activity. Officers handled 45 calls for service last week and conducted 85 traffic stops. Of those 85 stops, 50 resulted in citations and 35 were warnings.
We had four property crimes reported last week: #1 – A roll of copper wire valued at $200 was taken from a construction site on Wyatt Earp Way. #2 – A 2007 Chevy HHR registered out of Mexico was stolen from the Stripes C-Store. It broke down and had been there for about 4 weeks. #3 - A 2004 Ford F250 was burglarized at Best Western, numerous items were taken including a welding helmet. The loss was valued at $1,700. #4 – El Buffalo Pawn reported the theft of a generator, a suspect was identified, and the generator was recovered. Charges are pending.
There were six arrests last week. #1 – A traffic stop on McDonald St. resulted in the arrest of a 43-year-old male for possession of cocaine. #2 – A report of a reckless driver resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old male for reckless driving. #3 – Officers responded to a disturbance at the Camino Real Crisis Center, a 35-year-old male was arrested for Public Intoxication. #4 – A 52-year-old male was cited and released for a class C theft, the generator from the pawn shop. #5 – A 24-year-old male was arrested in the 19800 Blk of Doc Holiday for failing to ID (fugitive from justice), he had an active warrant out of Harris Co. He was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance. #6 – A 28-year-old male was arrested for D.W.I. in the 15000 Blk. of Railroad St.
I left town with my family last week and headed out on a vacation. Seven of us loaded up in our Suburban and headed east. Our destination was Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. The whole adventure, including Dollywood and Gatlinburg, exceeded my expectations. I gained just over one pound, not bad for being gone for 8 days. Mountains sure do add to a community’s ability to attract tourists, A few mountains in Lytle could really boost tourism. I have seen some landfills that turn into mountains, just no trees. Maybe we could get a landfill? It would be a start.
Last Friday, Oct. 18th was my official 25th year serving as Lytle’s Chief of Police! Way back in Oct. of 1999, I started this journey and so much has changed. Technological advancements and the growth in our community have really changed my job in the last 25 years. Not one to blow my own horn …but I oversaw the implementation of the first Lytle Police Dept. FAX machine. Not to stop there I oversaw the acquisition of a department email address (which all five officers shared). With that background, it is a wonder that some high-tech firm hasn’t tried to snatch me up.
