Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - Oct. 7, 2024
Oct. 7, 2024
I have uploaded the weekly report to our website. You can find it at www.lytletx.org/police. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Current Weekly Report.” If you have any questions, you can email me at richard.priest@lytletx.org
Last week, Lytle P.D. officers managed 56 calls for service and conducted 82 traffic stops. Of those 82 stops, 33 resulted in citations and 49 were warnings. A lot more warnings than citations, there must be a “nicest officer” poll on social media somewhere and our staff is competing.
Only one arrest was made last week. Officers were called to the Outlaw Seafood and Bar & Grill for a report of an intoxicated male. A 68-year-old male was cited for public intoxication and released to a responsible adult.
Officers took reports of three property crimes last week. #1 – H.E.B. Plus reported that someone made off with a hanging basket and a tree with a total value of $55. I have learned through the years that for every item, no matter how big or small, there is someone out there who will steal it. #2 – A complainant reported that their wallet was stolen from their shopping basket. #3 – A complainant reported that $1,000 worth of tools was stolen. He had taken them out of the bed of his truck so he could drive his truck through the new car wash. When he came out somebody had taken off with them, imagine that! Lt. Dear and Ofc. Mendez had a vehicle description; would you believe while on patrol they saw the suspect vehicle at a house? They made contact and recovered the tools; the owner didn’t want to file charges.
I have included three messages from Mayor Ruben Gonzalez, this is some “good stuff to know,” so please pay attention:
#1 - Team Lytle and surrounding communities, our new Shell fuel and convenience store will open with the fuel, store, and tacos restaurant portion of the center this Tuesday, 8 Oct at 7 am. (FM 3175 and I-35.) This is the first phase…future phases will include Pizza Hut and IHOP. Will keep you posted as they occur especially the IHOP. The owner said at least one more month for IHOP. (Comment from Me: Do they have pancakes that are sugar-free and carb free?)
#2 - Team Lytle, on Thursday (10 October) evening/night we will be working on a water leak a block away from the elementary school and football field. (We will need to lower our water pressure to fix it.) Please plan accordingly that evening as some will notice the pressure change around 8 pm. We hope to get the project done in a few hours and bring back our pressure to higher levels. (Comment from Me: Sounds like a plan)
#3 - Team Lytle and surrounding communities, just a heads-up that TXDOT is going to close the intersection of FM3175 and I-35 (By TNX bank) in two weeks. (Tentatively Friday night, 10 pm, through Monday morning, 5:30 am, 18th - 20th of October.) They will be fixing a damaged water line that serves southbound customers along the frontage room and will provide water to the IHOP/convenience store. Please pass the word around as TXDOT will probably detour folks to Lucky Road to get into Lytle. (Comment from Me: What a mess.)
Our National Night Out was a success, A special thanks to our sponsors, including H.E.B. Plus and LGI Homes. Special thanks to the Lytle VFW and their Auxiliary for cooking and serving 400 hotdogs! We ran out of dogs at the very end. Also popular was the bounce house, courtesy of Trinity Baptist Church. We had over 25 different organizations that had tables set up, it was a packed house. Law enforcement agencies represented included the Lytle P.D. (of course). The Atascosa Co. Sheriff’s Office, Medina Co. Sheriff’s Office, and the Bexar Co. Sheriff’s Office were there. Also present … Atascosa Co. E.M.S. and Lytle Fire Rescue. We had a wonderful time; it was a fun night. I can’t say thank you enough to all who helped make this event happen, there are just too many to list!
Officers had a busy week on the investigative side. With the help of the public, we identified our Subway “Robber”! Lt. Dear also did an excellent job in locating a missing / run-a-way juvenile. As a result of his quick action and experience, we were able to make a quick recovery. Special thanks to the Texas Ranger Service, who helped us out in Fort Bend Co.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. You can call, email, stop by, or have us dispatched to your location. There are so many options, and you won’t receive a bill for our services.
