Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - January 2, 2024
January 2, 2024
We have uploaded the weekly report to our website, you can find it at www.lytletx.org/police Scroll towards the bottom of the page and click on the Current Weekly Report. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at richard.priest@lytletx.org. Don't forget that city residential trash pick up will be on Friday this week, not Thursday.
The new year is upon us! We welcome 2024 and say goodbye to 2023. Here is what occurred in Lytle for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023. Officers handled 47 calls for service, a little uptick, but still on the low side for the number of calls. There were 94 traffic stops conducted, 62 of those resulted in citations and 32 were warnings.
Officers made 4 arrests last week: #1 – A traffic stop on Main and Davis (Ofc. J. Cortez) resulted in a 25-year-old male being arrested for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 & #3 – Ofc. L. Diaz (assisted by J. Cortez) attempted to stop a vehicle with no headlights on McDonald St. The vehicle fled and a short pursuit ensued. The driver and at least one other male bailed out at the intersection of CR 6841 & CR 6844. The males eluded capture, but the officers were able to catch two 17-year-old females that fled on foot. Both females were booked into the Medina Co. Jail on a misdemeanor charge of evading arrest or detention on foot. #4 – A traffic stop on Main St. by Ofc. Pena (assisted by Capt. Dear) resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old male for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. So, two were taken to the Medina Co. Jail and two were taken to the Atascosa Co. Jail. That’s nice, it shows we love both Sheriff Randy Brown and Sheriff David Soward, and it keeps them from getting offended if they think we are avoiding their jail. Sorry Sheriff Salazar, we only have a small slice of Bexar Co. and seldom use your jail.
Only one property crime was reported last week! Officer R. Garcia was dispatched to the H.E.B. Plus for a report of a theft. The incident occurred several hours before being discovered. The suspect was a male with a gaiter covering his face that was driving an older white Ford F150. He made off with 3 high-dollar, fancy Wagyu beef briskets as well as a Magic Bullet Blender and cookware. The total theft was valued at $700! Give us a call if your friend with an old white Ford F150 threw a party and served great briskets.
We were blessed this holiday season with very few property crimes, I hope the trend continues. Please don’t let down your guard. I am concerned the crooks and thieves have something up their sleeves. Maybe, they have organized and realized they can’t take Chief Priest head-on. Perhaps, they are avoiding Lytle knowing that if I have nothing to report on, I might just dry up and go away.
It looks like we have a couple of months without any big special events. Get ready for March, it will include both the Easter Egg Event at John Lott Park and the 2nd Annual Music Festival. Animal Care and Control also has its annual indoor garage sale in March too! Keep an eye on the city website for more details as they become available. March will be a fun month.
If you haven’t been out near Lytle State Bank, the Rosewood Subdivision has homes near completion. It will soon have its first residents. Our city motto is “A City on the Grow”, we are really living up to that now.
