You are receiving the special Christmas evening Lytle Police Chief’s Weekly Report.
Only 33 calls for service last week! I know this Christmas break won’t last forever but we are enjoying it. Officers conducted 77 traffic stops last week. Warnings edged out citations by 1, with 39 warnings and 38 citations. It is the season for giving, I guess that applies to warnings as well.
We only had one property crime reported last week! We have been blessed with low crime during this holiday season, I hope this is a sign of what 2024 will bring us. Property crime #1 of 1: The construction company doing TXDOT work on the access roads reported a storage container was broken into. A chainsaw and water pump were taken, and the total value of the loss was $550.
There were 4 arrests last week, resulting from 3 different events. #1 – Officers responded to the 14500 blk. of Main St. for a disturbance. The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old male for assaulting his father. The suspect was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 & #3 – Officers responded to H.E.B. Plus for a report of a theft & terroristic threats. The suspects were stopped in the parking lot. A brief investigation resulted in the recovery of narcotics and two handguns. As Archie Bunker would say “they were packing rods.” A 38-year-old male picked up felony narcotics charges and felon in possession of a firearm. The 19-year-old female picked up felony narcotics charges as well. You have all seen how a simple shoplifting case can quickly escalate, luckily this situation was taken under control quickly. Both suspects were booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #4 – Officers responded to White Cap Dr. for a disturbance, a 20-year-old male was arrested for assault (family violence). He was booked into the Medina Co. Jail in Hondo.
It’s time for my twice-a-year spill on fireworks. The discharge of fireworks (commonly known as “popping”) is prohibited inside the city limits. To report fireworks please call our dispatch number, 830-769-3434 (choose option #1). The Atascosa Co. Sheriff’s Communication Center will contact our officers by radio and have them respond to the area. We need your help …. We won’t have a drone in the air (it got cut out of the budget) and none of the officers are willing to climb up on the water tower (including me). So, if you have an issue, please call dispatch. We can see and hear them while patrolling but locating them is not as easy as one would think.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and is ready for the new year. I know I have had a lot of fun. I had a busy Christmas Eve. From church that morning, I went off to Costco (my punishment for putting stuff off). Then it was off to dinner in San Antonio (Julian’s Italian on N. New Braunfels) and checking out the Christmas lights in Terrell Hills. I ended the evening with an 11 PM Christmas Eve service at our church in Devine. I think I dozed off while I was holding a lit candle. Next year I will try to remember to bring one of those battery-powered fake candles.
