Three juveniles arrested after attempted vehicle theft, shooting

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Battle Creek Police responded to a report of an attempted vehicle theft at approximately 1:45 a.m. Sunday, April 5, in the 400 block of Arbor Point Drive. 

Police learned that multiple suspects attempted to steal a vehicle and fired shots at a resident who confronted them. The suspects fired four shots. The victim was not struck and did not suffer injuries. 

While officers investigated the scene, they identified evidence showing that suspects had entered or attempted to enter additional vehicles in the area. Officers located four shell casings and reviewed video footage. Police also received additional 911 calls from residents reporting individuals hiding nearby. 

During the search, officers located three juvenile male suspects near 20th Street and Michigan Avenue. The victim identified the juveniles as the individuals involved in the incident. A police K‑9 tracked the suspects and led officers directly to them, resulting in their arrest without incident. 

The suspects include one 17-year-old male and two 16-year-old males. All three were lodged at the Calhoun County Juvenile Home. Charges are being submitted for larceny from a vehicle and aggravated felonious assault. 

Police said the incident was isolated and there is no ongoing risk to the public. No further information will be released at this time.
