Police investigating fatal crash on M-37

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. –  Battle Creek police responded shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday to a fatal single-vehicle crash on M-37 near Marvin Street.

A 42-year-old man from Bedford Township was driving north on M-37 when witnesses reported seeing him slump toward the passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Investigators found no signs of braking, and the crash is believed to have been caused by a medical emergency.

LifeCare Ambulance and the Bedford Fire Department responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures. Despite those efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m.

The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The incident remains under investigation.
