Update from Town of Orono re: Jamestown Canyon Virus found in Orono mosquito sample

As we head from this wet weather toward a forecast that includes warmer temps and higher humidity, this is a reminder that Jamestown Canyon Virus has been detected in the mosquito population in Orono. For some people, symptoms of JCV are non-existent, while others infected may experience mild flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, and weakness. In some cases people experience more severe symptoms.

Per information found on the Maine DHHS website, try to limit potential exposure to mosquitoes by wearing repellent, wearing long pants and long-sleeve shirts to lessen the amount of uncovered skin, and try to minimize your time outside between early evening and early morning, when mosquitoes are most active.
