Message from Town of Orono ~ Jamestown Canyon Virus found in Orono mosquito sample
The Town has received verbal notice from the Maine Center for Disease Control & Prevention that Jamestown Canyon Virus was detected in a sample of collected mosquitoes within Orono. Currently the Town awaits further information from the CDC, which we will relay as soon as we receive it.
Per information found on the CDC website, try to limit potential exposure to mosquitoes by wearing repellent, wearing long pants and long-sleeve shirts to lessen the amount of uncovered skin, and try to minimize your time outside between early evening and early morning, when mosquitoes are most active.
