Town of Palm Beach Alerts and News Releases

July 5-26, 2024: Annual Chlorine Flush of West Palm Beach's Drinking Water System

The Town of Palm Beach receives its drinking water from the City of West Palm Beach.  From Friday, July 5 through Friday, July 26, 2024, the City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department will be conducting their annual chlorine disinfection flush of the City's Water Treatment Plant and drinking water systems.  During this annual process, West Palm Beach switches their disinfectant from chloramines to free chlorine in order to maintain high quality drinking water.  Chlorine is an effective and safe disinfectant to protect against contamination.

The Palm Beach community may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor in tap water during this period.  These temporary conditions will not cause adverse health effects.  Those who are sensitive to the taste or odor of chlorine are advised to keep an open container of drinking water in the refrigerator for a few hours to allow the chlorine to dissipate.

NOTE: Users of home dialysis machines, owners of tropical fish, and managers of stores and restaurants with fish and shellfish holding tanks are advised to seek professional advice, as the method for removing chlorine residuals differs from removing chloramine residuals from tap water.
Please contact the City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department with any questions by calling (561) 822-2210.
