Town of Palm Beach Alerts and News Releases

It's Time to Closely Monitor the Tropics

The Town of Palm Beach urges the community to monitor the tropics as the 2024 Hurricane Season has its first tropical disturbance in the Atlantic.  An elongated area of low pressure over the Florida peninsula is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.  This system has been moving across Florida and will begin to move offshore of the U.S. Southeast coast later this week.  Environmental conditions are expected to be generally unfavorable, although some slow development is possible when the system is offshore of the U.S. Southeast coast.  Regardless of development, there is heavy rainfall in portions of Florida this week.  A flood watch is in effect across South Florida, including in Palm Beach, through Thursday evening as flooding from multiple rounds of heavy rainfall is possible.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1 through November 30, with the peak occurring around the middle of September.  Please monitor the weather this week and use this first tropical disturbance to double-check that your emergency plans are in order.

Please review the Town's hurricane preparedness tips below.
