Micromobility Devices – Safety Reminder

The Town of Palm Beach reminds residents and visitors of recently adopted Town ordinances regulating the use of micromobility devices, including e-bikes, electric scooters, and other similar powered devices. As these devices continue to gain popularity, operators must understand the safety requirements designed to protect pedestrians, motorists, and riders.

Key regulations for micromobility devices in the Town of Palm Beach:
  • Micromobility devices, including e-bikes and motorized scooters, are prohibited on the Lake Trail, pursuant to Town Code §118-11
    • Exception: mobility devices designed for use by persons with disabilities.
  • Micromobility devices are not permitted on any Town sidewalk, per Town Code §106-158.
  • Operators of micromobility devices must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Riders under 16 years of age must wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet meeting national safety standard.
  • All operators must carry a valid government-issued photo ID and present it upon request by law enforcement.
  • Violations of these regulations are subject to enforcement and penalties under Town Code §1-14.
  • Operators are also reminded to follow all traffic laws, yield to pedestrians, use proper lighting at night, and operate their devices safely and predictably.

The Town encourages parents, residents, and visitors to review these rules and have conversations with young riders about safe and responsible riding. For additional data and reports, please see the attached flyer from the Health Care District of Palm Beach County.
