The Nature Center at Greenburgh is seeking passionate and qualified individuals to join its Board of Directors as the organization continues to grow and expand its impact across Westchester County.

The Nature Center plays an important role in providing environmental education, conservation initiatives, and meaningful connections to nature for residents of all ages. This is a unique opportunity for community members with leadership experience, financial expertise, and a commitment to community service to help guide a treasured regional resource into its next chapter.
 

 

Position Description: Board Member

Overview
The Nature Center at Greenburgh is seeking exceptional leaders to join the passionate and dedicated Board of Directors who guide our non-profit. As we steward our mission of environmental education, conservation, and community connection, we seek individuals who are visionary, experienced  in management or business leadership, committed to fiscal responsibility, and enthusiastic about supporting our growth both strategically and financially.

Joining our Board means becoming part of a dynamic group of 15 engaged community members who serve as champions, stewards, and ambassadors for the Nature Center's mission.


Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for candidates who embody the following qualities:


•    Visionary Leadership: Able to see the big picture, anticipate future needs, and contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the organization.

•    Proven Executive or Management Experience: Brings experience in running a business, leading a department, managing teams, or overseeing major initiatives.

•    Financial Acumen: Understands financial oversight (preferably non-profit), budgeting, and fiscal accountability.

•    Commitment to Philanthropy: Demonstrates a personal commitment to financially supporting the Nature Center and can help foster a culture of giving among peers and community networks.

•    Collaborative and Engaged: Values teamwork, contributes to committee work, and actively participates in events and community engagement.


Board Member Responsibilities:

•    Serve a 3-year term with the opportunity for renewal

•    Attend regular Board meetings (typically monthly), and participate in at le st one committee

•    Provide strategic oversight, governance, and fiduciary responsibility

•    Serve as an ambassador for the Nature Center within your networks

•    Make an annual personally meaningful financial contribution
 
•    Support fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation and special events

•        Help ensure the long-term sustainability and relevance of the Nature Center in the region
