Message from Mayor Burgos, the Board of Trustees and Chief Pignatelli to the Irvington Community

 Like many of you, we are deeply troubled by the attack that occurred today at Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan, where an individual rammed a vehicle into the building and opened fire before being stopped by security personnel. Thankfully, the children and staff inside the synagogue were reported safe, though the incident remains under active investigation.

 We are also closely following reports of a shooting today at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where a gunman opened fire inside a campus building, leaving one person dead and two others injured before the suspect was stopped. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding that incident.

Events like these are alarming and painful for communities across the country, particularly for those who gather in houses of worship seeking peace, safety, and connection.

While there is no known threat to Irvington, we want residents to know that the Irvington Police Department is coordinating closely with the Westchester County Police Department and our neighboring communities to remain vigilant to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.

The safety and wellbeing of our community remain our highest priority. We encourage residents to remain attentive and to report any suspicious activity to the Irvington Police Department.
