Mayor's Message - March 10, 2026
As we move into March, in addition to celebrating Women’s History Month and Irish Heritage Month, I’d like to share a few Village updates and highlight opportunities for residents to stay informed, engaged, and connected with our community.
Women’s History Month
March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions women have made to our community, our nation, and our shared history. Here in Irvington, we are fortunate to have women who serve in countless roles as leaders, volunteers, educators, public servants, business owners, and dedicated family members. Throughout this month, we honor their achievements and the lasting impact they continue to have in our Village. Irvington also holds an important place in women’s history as the home of Madam C. J. Walker, the pioneering entrepreneur and philanthropist who became America’s first self-made female millionaire. Her historic estate, Villa Lewaro, still stands in our Village as a powerful reminder of her legacy of innovation, opportunity, and leadership.
Irish Heritage Month
March is also Irish Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Irish Americans to our communities and our country. The Hudson River Valley has deep Irish roots, reflected in the many families who have contributed to our local history and civic life. Celebrate at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in neighboring Sleepy Hollow, which will be held on March 15, 2026. The parade is a festive celebration of Irish culture and community spirit, featuring local organizations, music, and marching groups. Residents looking to join the celebration are encouraged to come out and enjoy the Parade. Get more details here.
Facilities Planning Project – Virtual Open House
Residents who were unable to attend the recent Facilities Planning Project Open House, or who would like to review the materials again, are encouraged to visit the Virtual Open House, where exhibit boards and project information are available online. The Virtual Open House also provides an opportunity for residents to submit feedback and remain involved in the planning process. Access the Virtual Open House here: https://app.maptionnaire.com/q/3ssy2b9zh7w9.
Public Safety Update
You may have seen the important public safety update shared by Irvington Police Chief Francis Pignatelli. The Irvington Police Department recently received reports of larcenies from vehicles and a car theft within the Village. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant by locking their vehicles, removing valuables, and reporting any suspicious activity. You can read the Chief’s full public safety notice here: https://www.irvingtonny.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/3337.
Dark House Program
The Irvington Police Department also offers a helpful Dark House Program for residents who will be away from home. If you are planning to travel and do not have someone available to check on your property, the Police Department can assist. An Irvington Police Officer will check the exterior of your residence once a day while you are away to help ensure that everything appears to be in order. Learn more here: https://www.irvingtonny.gov/738/Dark-House-Checks.
Police Chief Employment Agreement
On March 2, 2026, the Village Board approved the employment agreement with Chief Francis Pignatelli, effective June 1, 2025 and continuing through May 31, 2028. The Board of Trustees thanks Chief Pignatelli for his dedication, professionalism, and continued leadership in helping keep Irvington a safe community.
Senior Center Parking Permit Update
The Village Board also recently voted to modify the local law governing parking in the lot adjacent to the Irvington Senior Center at 29 Bridge Street. Under the updated law, a parking permit will be required to park in the lot between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Permits are available only to individuals who are registered with the Irvington Senior Center. This change is intended to ensure that the parking lot remains accessible for those participating in Senior Center programs and services.
Planning a Block Party
As warmer weather approaches, many neighborhoods begin planning block parties and outdoor gatherings. These events are a wonderful way to bring neighbors together and strengthen our sense of community. Residents interested in hosting a block party this year can apply for a Block Party Permit through the Village’s online form. The application process helps the Village coordinate temporary street closures, ensure emergency vehicle access, and support a safe and enjoyable event for everyone involved. Volunteers Neeed for the Rocktoberfest Committee
The Rocktoberfest Committee is seeking volunteers to assist with the planning and preparation of this year’s Rocktoberfest event. Volunteers are needed in several areas, including general event support, beer and wine procurement, children’s activity planning, and printing and promotional outreach. Individuals interested in helping organize this popular community event are encouraged to get involved. Thank you for staying engaged and informed about the work of your Village government. Apply to volunteer for the Rocktoberfest Committee here.
Sincerely,
