Facilities Planning Committee - Contract approved

This week, the Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a contract with the architectural and planning firm Beyer Blinder Belle (BBB) for a professional space needs assessment to be followed by site and architectural studies for Village department’s facilities, prioritizing the Police, Fire, and Public Works.

BBB’s contract for the Village Facilities Study builds on the foundation established by the Facilities Planning Committee (FPC), while also taking a rigorous, comprehensive look at all Village facilities and sites to ensure that no potential options or needs are overlooked.

The planning process includes significant stakeholder engagement with Village departments and the community. We expect to begin this fall and you can find the proposed 9-month process explained in the details of the agreement linked here: https://www.irvingtonny.gov/DocumentCenter/View/13349/Draft-BBB-Agreement-with-Exhibits-

As detailed in the pre-vote discussion, the Village leadership has significant flexibility with the evolution of the process if adjustments are needed. Please note: no final decisions have been made.

In the aftermath of the prior 2023 bond proposal rejected by 84% of voters, this fresh effort is committed to addressing the needs of all Village Facilities and the opportunities those investments afford the community to build a more resilient and vibrant Village, consistent with the broader goals set forth by our community in the 2018 Comprehensive Plan.

This long-range and action oriented plan will test various options, gather input and feedback from the departments and the community before plans are finalized and provide a detailed, decades-long path forward.

Please be advised that earlier this summer the Village Board of Trustees approved $400,000 for the construction of a decontamination space for the safety of our volunteer fire department. The safety of the members of the IFD is a top priority for the Board. The Board believes that building an appropriate decontamination area should not be delayed while the Village engages in the long-term planning for all of our Village Facilities.
