Carbondale Police Press Release - Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon

CARBONDALE – On June 10, 2025, at 11:34 a.m., City of Carbondale police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 300 block of East Oak Street for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers located a loaded firearm inside the vehicle. Officers arrested Austin B Dedecker, 19 years old of Carbondale, Julius J. Word, 20 years old of Carbondale, and a 17 year old juvenile of Carbondale, for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. After conferring with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, Dedecker and Word were incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail pending detention hearings. The juvenile was released to his parent. In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the identity of the juvenile suspect is not being released.
