PLAN Carbondale to Share Draft of Comprehensive Plan with the Public at an “Open House” event on Wednesday, April 2nd
CARBONDALE -
The City of Carbondale is excited to invite the public to an “Open House” for PLAN Carbondale on Wednesday, April 2nd.
Held in room 108 at the Carbondale Civic Center (200 S. Illinois Ave.) from 6:30-8:00 PM, guests will be able to view the draft of recommendations for the City’s long-term comprehensive plan with the opportunity to provide feedback on these results. Guests may come and go as they please during this time frame but are encouraged to arrive at the start time to receive info on how to best participate in the event.
Over the past eight months, the City’s planning staff has worked with a volunteer steering committee representing a range of interests, backgrounds, and neighborhoods to help guide the process and plan document. Community members came out in November for a preliminary workshop at which they shared ideas for the future of Carbondale. Following that event and online engagement, the planning team has worked diligently to develop plan recommendations that will be shared at the Open House. The comprehensive plan is a long-term guide for land use, housing, transportation, parks and open space, economic development, and more.
Pizza and light refreshments will be provided at this event starting at 6:15, and activities will be available for all ages (bring the kids!). Free parking is available on-site. Advanced registration at PlanCarbondale.com is encouraged. For those unable to attend, materials will be posted online beginning Tuesday, March 25 for viewing and comment at PlanCarbondale.com.
The final comprehensive plan document is expected to be completed for approval late Spring/early Summer of this year. For more information, visit PlanCarbondale.com.

“Carbondale prides itself on providing its visitors, students, businesses and residents with a unique mix of edge and ease. It’s a cultural town, yet free of pretense, embracing the great outdoors as readily as urban sophistication. Here, we are open to new ideas, experiences and cultures, so you are encouraged to both express yourself and be yourself, in all ways. That’s Carbondale…All Ways Open…for family, fun, business, new ideas and a bright tomorrow.”
