Carbondale Police Press Release- Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon Investigation

CARBONDALE – On April 20, 2024 at 11:42 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers stopped a vehicle with suspended license plates in the 600 block of East Grand Avenue. During the stop, officers learned the driver, Bernard B. Cole, age 40 of Marion, IL, had a suspended driver’s license. During the course of the arrest, Cole was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm and a controlled substance. Cole was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving While License Suspended.  Cole was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
